NBC News Digital is seeking an editor that understands this mix, someone who can help the senior editor drive our coverage of Wellness – not just fitness fads or the latest medical study, but also personal finance, family, career. This editor is responsible for delivering impactful, engaging, discussible and shareable content for a newly-constituted section on NBCNews.com.
Candidates must bring a wealth of experience covering a variety of wellness (fitness, personal finance, health, career, parenting, etc.) topics, as well as significant time spent as an editor in a digital publishing environment. A familiarity with digital video – how to make it and make it well – is an absolute must, and hands on experience with video is a real plus. The person who wins this job will also know when a story is best told in video, or when it should be text, or when it should be neither and be left to a chart or graphic. They will know, and love, how to use data and metrics to drive editorial and product decisions.
+ Executing the daily and overall editorial agenda for our digital wellness coverage, at times this includes assigning stories and working with the video and graphics desks to shape their output
+ Working with a range of journalistic talent from both digital and TV to produce journalism that sets us apart
+ Editing stories and being the “last pair of eyes” to see everything that appears on our platforms, or empowering the right people to be that set of eyes in your stead
+ Cultivate a social media presence and general audience awareness of the site to drive traffic and audience loyalty
+ Use metrics and audience data to optimize content and consumption (e.g. topics for SEO, headline writing, choice of topics, etc.)
+ Build relationships with content partners, within and outside of NBC News
+ 5 years of experience in journalism, with a heavy focus on wellness (inclusive of health, fitness, personal finance, parenting, career) for at least half of that
+ At least 3 working in an exclusively digital journalism shop
+ Experience as an innovator who brings storytelling ideas that breakaway from traditional articles and videos coupled with creative distribution tactics to reach new audiences via social, mobile and desktop
+ Deep understanding of the nuances of packaging for the web, mobile web and social - primarily Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn and leading social messaging apps
+ Experience producing creative and high quality video, ideally has worked with in or around a TV news organization
+ Deep understanding of the changing digital media landscape in all its formsAdditional Job Requirements
