Job Description

Hearst Television Digital is looking for an Analytics Manager,  an expert in implementation, optimization and utilization of analytics packages in the digital publishing space to ensure our toolsets are properly setup, reports optimized and that editorial colleagues are able to maximize use to engage more audience on web, native apps and social brands. You have a passion and interest in promoting data driven decision making in a digital media operation.

Your initial focus is digging into our vast suite of reporting products to assess setup, correct issues, optimize dashboards/reporting templates (including removal of confusing or unused reports), engage with editorial team members to mentor on use, and build out large screen displays of reports that will drive real-time content optimization. Once a strong foundation is established, you’ll work on the long-term strategy to make recommendations on pruning/adding tools to improve outcomes as well as creating custom reports, data mining and running statistical analysis on the performance of content and product initiatives.

Hearst Television reaches 25M+ unduplicated users across its websites and apps, delivering critical news and weather information to local communities throughout the US.

Responsibilities

  • Evangelize data driven decision making amongst editorial and product colleagues
  • Assess proper use of analytics products by our teams and course correct when necessary
  • Ensure ROI is obtained from analytics tools and software, right-size the setup
  • Mine data and reports using the latest and greatest methods
  • Process, cleanse, verify the integrity of data used for reporting and analysis
  • Do ad-hoc analysis and present results in clear manner
  • Validate implementations and extract insights across toolsets, such as: Google Analytics, Sprinklr, ShareRocket, TrueAnthem, DFP, Nice People at Work, ComScore

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in Google Analytics Premium, social measurement tools, video measurement tools
  • Ability to connect the dots between these measurement tools and ad server data
  • Great communication skills and temperament, ability to breakdown reports into easy to understand, actionable items for editorial and product colleagues
  • Excellent mentoring and training skills, able to get editorial staff on board with data driven decision making
  • Understanding of tech and build requirements to construct large screen real-time data displays
  • Ability to travel occasionally

Required Experience

  • 3 to 5+ years experience in analytics, statistics, and/or related data science field
  • Ideally experience working with analytics in a media/content operation

Bonus, not required, but for the budding data scientist

  • Experience with or understanding of machine learning techniques
  • Scripting and programming skills
  • Familiarity with APIs to extract data for analysis
  • Familiarity with query languages
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools
